Solar-Log power management was select for Las Salinas, a grand sea resort in Enfeh, the Northern coast of Lebanon. Las Salinas sits on 24 landscaped acres overlooking the sea. It is the perfect getaway for leisure travelers, family vacationers and water sports lovers.
ECOsys, part of ITG (Holding), installed a solar PV array at Las Salinas. The array consists of a rooftop installation, solar carport system, and canopy over a sports court. The total capacity is 266 kWp.
The project is financed by the “National Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Action” (NEEREA) through BLF bank. NEEREA is a national financing mechanism initiated by the Central Bank of Lebanon and dedicated to the financing of green energy projects in Lebanon.
Particular Solar PV Installation Challenges
The project’s main challenge was to esthetically design and integrate a PV system within the existing structure. It was also a big challenge that the installation took place on two different buildings. Plus it included a 16-foot high canopy over the tennis court.
Special Requirements – Power Management
Due to the instability of the grid, a diesel generator was installed to supply energy during power outages. The PV management system needed to be able to prevent the backflow of energy to the diesel generator.
Solar-Log’s power management solution was selected for this project. During the grid’s failure, Solar-Log prevents the excess energy from being sent to diesel generator, otherwise the backflow could cause a failure.
The implementation procedure was performed by a group of 20 specialists consisting of engineers and technicians. The system was fully implemented in January 2017, with an estimated payback period of 6 years.
“Las Salinas is proud to embrace the solar energy trend and help reduce the pollution in our country. This project is very important to our environment and nature. The beautiful design and accurate execution of ECOsys, along with the financial support of NEEREA & BDL, helped us achieve our environmental contribution. ECOsys’ continuous follow up and effort to solve the technical and esthetic challenges that we faced, was crucial to finalize the project within the assigned deadline. We hope that other resorts and institutions take into consideration the obligation of investing in solar systems that will guide us towards a better sustainable country. We also hope that our government would provide further needed support in this field, by installing net meters throughout Lebanese regions” – Mr. Joseph Chikhani, Chairman of Las Salinas Resort
